Some guidelines on checking the connectivity of the tablet, where the user(s) are reporting a loss in service in areas of the application i.e. Postcode lookup, searching for donor(s) etc… where a connection to the internet is required.
While the application has a level of resilience built in i.e. the CHECKOUT can continue to trade, caching any transactions and re-synching these with the ‘cloud’ when a connection is re-established, this is not available on all the services provided in normal use.
Where the user reports a lack of service a quick check from the Samsung desktop screen will identify whether the device has a connection to the local wifi i.e. see the small radar signal.
Where this not found it suggests the device is not on a network and further investigation will be required.
To check the WiFi connectivity, sliding your finger down from the top of the tablet screen will display a sub menu.
This sub menu displays the small radar symbol (on the right handside…). Where this is ‘grey’ it suggest the WiFi is not enabled on the device.
To enable the tablet to access a WiFi connection, simply press (tap) the grey button and this will turn to blue.
To check that the device is connected to the correct network, press and hold down the WiFi button for a couple of seconds will display another screen on the device.
This screen will display the ‘Current network’ the device is connected to and where the device is not currently connected to a network, selecting a line from the ‘Available networks’ will allow this.
There will be a requirement to key in the password to get on the network, and you should contact your network administrator to share this information.
The lights on the front of the printer (a) Power and (c) Bluetooth connectivity are critical to the tablet printing receipts and connecting to the printer via the Bluetooth connection established when the CHECKOUT application is run.
Where the (a) Power is not ‘blue’, the connector at the rear of the printer should be checked and where this looks fine, a check should be made of the plug socket used by the printer.
Where the (a) Power is ‘red’, the printer is out of paper.
Where the (c) Bluetooth is not on, the settings should be checked in the CHECKOUT application and the support desk should be advised.
The tablet at the Checkout is connected to a receipt printer. There are four cables connecting into the back of the printer for the power, cash drawer, tablet power feed and the handheld scanner.
The power should be connected to the ‘DC24V’ circular port, the cash drawer should be connected to the ‘DK’ port, Tablet ‘power’ feed should be connected to the USB ‘0.5A’ port and the handheld scanner to the second USB ‘0.5A’ port
The tablet can utilise a ‘handheld’ scanner as part of the sales process, and where deployed connects via the Bluetooth connected receipt printer.
The handheld scanner is connected via a USB cable (from the handle of the scanner) to the second USB ‘0.5A’ port in the underside of the receipt printer.
When not in use the ‘handheld’ scanner will go into power saving mode and holding the trigger in for a couple of seconds will ‘awake’ the device.
To ensure the Charity Suite application works as expected, it is necessary to amend the keyboard settings of the tablet if using the bluetooth activated scanner for inventory processing.
Navigate to the tablet Settings
→ General management
→ Physical keyboard
→ Show on-screen keyboard and TOGGLE ON
If there is an issue with your bluetooth scanner reading custom printed stock labels, during stock takes, it may be that the bluetooth scanner requires a reset to read these custom labels correctly.
Press the trigger to turn on the scanner and
then point at the following codes in order and press the trigger to scan each. After each scan you will hear
a audible notification beep.
Ensure the switch at the front on the label's printer is set with the | depressed and the power cable is seated in the back of the printer.
On switching on, both the green and orange lights flash at the front of the printer until connection is estabilshed to the internet, when only the green light is on.
The orange light will show if there is an error.
The printer is opened to change label rolls by pressing the button to the right of the printing teeth.
